Golf is, in part, a game; but only in part. It is also in part a religion, a fever, a vice, a mirage, a frenzy, a fear, an abscess, a joy, a thrill, a pest, a disease, an uplift, a brooding, a melancholy, a dream of yesterday, and a hope for tomorrow.
That’s what the New York Tribune had to say about the great game way back in 1916. And most regular players would agree about the sport’s complex mix of hope and fear, depression and triumph. At the inaugural Arun Business Partnership Golf Day, 68 people took to the Littlehampton Golf Course to battle it out, against their competitors, against their own handicaps and against the elements in a networking event that will be played out for many years into the future.
Designed as an opportunity to bring like-minded players together, the Golf Day was an outstanding success. Not only did everyone have a fantastic time, but the event also raised £800 for two local charities – St Barnabas and CVS Arun-wide.
While all players tried their utmost, no-one took the prizes for a hole-in-one – but it scarcely mattered, judging by the wide smiles on the players’ faces as they returned to the club house at the end of the day, where a fabulous buffet awaited them to renew course-wearied batteries.
The pictures in our gallery show the sense of fun, joie-de-vivre and community spirit that made the first Arun Golf Day so successful. If you missed out in 2007, why not get on the course and whittle your handicap away in preparation for the 2008 event?

The Arun Business Partnership Golf Day was made into an outstanding success by the generosity and involvement of many local companies.
We are exceedingly grateful to Littlehampton Golf Club for allowing us to use their course for the day, as well as putting on a fabulous spread to sate the appetites of course-weary golfers.
