Volunteers from HSBC Finance in Worthing spent the day working with students from Worthing High School as part of the school's Enterprise programme.
Teams planned the opening of a new music shop and took on specific roles such as Marketing Manager and Finance Director. Students prepared a budget and marketing materials as well as job adverts and a plan of the shop interior.
The event helps students to develop knowledge of business concepts, increase their understanding of the constraints that businesses operate under, and to improve skills in decision making, communication and team working.
Teams have the opportunity to make appointments with the volunteers who act as consultants to discuss their ideas and obtain advice. The day concludes with students' displays being judged and prizes awarded for various categories. The overall winner will go forward to compete against other schools in the area.
HSBC Finance in Worthing have 'adopted' this event after one of their managers had been a volunteer on several occasions. The company was looking to invest time and money in a project that several schools in the area could take advantage of while at the same time, using the experience as a training module for their Emerging Talent cohort (fast track employees).
If you'd like to adopt a project across a group of schools and would like to discuss it further, please contact Jacqui Scerri.
