Where's Miriam Been In April?
, Wednesday, 30 April 2008
You'll be delighted to know that Miriam has been out and about in Arun this month, getting to know more businesses in the Partnership.
This month, tea has been forthcoming at both Chequer Frames and Envirowaste.
First up in April was a visit to Chequer Frames in Norfolk Street, Bognor Regis. The shop has been tucked away in Norfolk Street for a number of years under previous ownership. About a year ago the previous owner was retiring and Nigel Long decided it was time to come out from his garage and make him and his work more visible. Chequer Frames is an Aladdin’s Cave of all things framing and Nigel is able to frame all things! Whilst I was there Nigel and his assistant Megan showed me how they undertake some of their framing and some of the technicalities that are involved. It’s truly amazing just what they can get into a frame!
Nigel is keen to expand his presence locally and I have suggested that there might be one or two local companies with wonderful public areas that might benefit from some of Nigel’s work adorning their walls in exchange for his company details on the frames. If you think you might like to talk to Nigel about this then email him at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
A couple of days later found me surrounded by waste cardboard, paper, plastics and tyres – I get all the glamorous jobs! This was during my equally fascinating visit to Envirowaste in Yapton where MD Graham Wells showed myself and Chris Shephard around.
Envirowaste has been located at Yapton for about a year and is growing more rapidly than the neatly woven pile of tyres to the side of the site. These tyres are part of the recycling service that Envirowaste offer to local companies. For an incredibly cheap (sorry Graham but cheap is the only word I can find!) £3 – yes THREE POUNDS per week Graham and his staff will supply you with a regular collection of waste paper, cardboard and plastic. This waste is then recycled instead of going into landfill – not only good for the environment but good for your bottom line! Graham can be found at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it And in case you were wondering the tyres have the metal removed and are then shredded for equestrian use.
Don’t forget … if you would like to feature in Where’s Miriam and can make a good cup of tea then just This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Go on … it’s really not that bad and why wouldn’t you want around 5,000 other local businesses to know about you?
