Is your business one in a million?

Just over a million businesses have started up in the past three years*, but judging by recent statistics, which reveal a 17% increase in business failure, only the very best of these will succeed…**

Startups Awards 2008 are on the hunt to find those businesses that are succeeding. Organised by Startups.co.uk, the awards celebrate and reward the most outstanding new companies across the UK. They are now accepting entries from ambitious businesses that think they have what it takes to become the household brands of the future!

Previous winners have included GlassesDirect, eCourier, GoinGreen, BeatThatQuote.com, RTL Games, 82ASK and SportStars.

“When starting a new business it can be lonely and extremely difficult to gain the recognition that you deserve and need in order to gain client and customer loyalty. The Startups Awards are seeking to identify and recognise its fifth generation of inspirational new businesses, who have not only avoided failure, but flourished, in spite of the troubled economy.” David Lester, small business expert and founder, Startups.co.uk

The judging panel consists of some of the UK’s most successful entrepreneurs and business experts including Chrissie Rucker, founder, The White Company; Simon Calver, CEO, LOVEFiLM International; Wilfred Emmanuel Jones, The Black Farmer and Alan Giles, chairman, Fat Face to name just a few.

The awards contain 16 categories. These include Innovative Business of the Year; Retailer of the Year; Franchisee of the Year, Young Entrepreneur of the Year; Women in Business Award, Best Use of Technology and a new category for 2008: Social Enterprise of the Year. Winners of each category will then compete to be named the Startups Business of the Year and collect a grand prize of £5,000.

To be eligible to enter, the business must have been trading for less than three years, be privately owned, and employ fewer than 60 people. The closing date for entries is 06 July 2008 and finalists will be announced on 15 August. For details and a full list of categories visit www.startupsawards.co.uk
