Zpen from Dane-Elec brings handwritten notes into the digital age

Innovative wireless "digital pen" transfers handwritten notes and drawings to any computer in seconds.

Dane-Elec (
www.danedigital.com), the global brand for flash and DRAM memory and flash memory based products, has today unveiled its innovative new wireless Zpen in the UK.  By using the Zpen in conjunction with its small clip-on receiver, users can write on any kind of paper and then upload the handwritten notes onto their computer in seconds - finding keywords in their notes automatically. By converting this handwritten text into a digital format, users can then view and edit the text on screen

By clipping the Zpen's small receiver to the top of a blank piece of paper or an A4 pad, the movements of the Zpen are recorded accurately via infra red and digitally modulated acoustic signals that are transmitted from the Zpen and stored instantly on the flash memory in the receiver. Any handwritten notes can then be uploaded to the PC via the USB connector which forms part of the receiver. Better still, the Zpen even has built-in ICR (Intelligent character recognition) software, so the text can be transferred to a Microsoft® Word or other word processing document easily.

A special graphic setting will ensure that "mind maps" or other diagrams are kept in their original format. Additional features, such as keyword search, user profile creation for more customised ICR, a personal dictionary, as well as 15 different language options, are also included as standard.

The Zpen can also be used as a standard 1GB USB Flash drive in order to store videos, music, pictures and other files.  The device comes ready to use, with batteries included for the pen and an USB extension cable for the receiver.
