Homelink is a local charity serving the Arun District administrative area. It was formed in 1995 by the local churches to assist the single homeless over the age of 18 to find accommodation in the private sector by guaranteeing their rent deposit. We help the people who fall through the net of current housing legislation.
ADC and other bodies refer clients to us. We do have a small waiting list at the moment caused by lack of monies we have reached our current budget spend for this financial year. This is due to an increase in demand for our services.
Homelink has a very good relationship with local landlords in both the east and west of the district. We are always looking for more landlords We have recently taken on our own house premises, offering accommodation for six clients. It will run as a ‘dry and clean’ house, no alcohol or other substances permitted on the premises, and will be a stepping stone for our clients towards independent living.
The Garden project is our social enterprise scheme. It is based at a nursery north of Littlehampton. The project is manned entirely be clients and volunteers. We grow salad produce and vegetables, fruit and bedding plants. This project is proving a great success , our produce is sold locally and is available to members of the public as well as to local cafes. We are hoping to expand this service during this next year this will enable us to offer suitable training opportunities for our clients. Our end aim is for them to obtain suitable qualifications to enable them to find full time employment in the area.
The Breakfast Club is held in a local church hall three mornings a week. We offer a hot full English Breakfast to homeless people for 50 pence a time. We would like to expand these morning sessions and offer literacy and numeracy training sessions. We would like to add on to this art or potteryclasses . We are in the process of asking our clients what training classes they would like to arrange. We aim to provide this service in conjunction with a local college of further education.
We operate a soup run to rough slleppers on the beach. Hot soup and sandwiches are a great comfort on a cold, wet and windy night.
It is our intention to have a community van on the road as soon as possible. This van will be used not only by ourselves for delivery of produce to outlets and to the community, but will also be available for moving small items of furniture and will be available, for a nominal fee, to other agencies and the community at large. We are applying for funding for this project at the present time. We hope that a commercial organisation will offer to sponsor this vehicle in exchange for having it’s company logo prominently displayed.
If any member of the Arun Business Partnership is interested in visiting one or all of our projects please would they contact either Tony Moran on 01903 739669 or Rosemary Orpin on 01903 723944 to make an appointment.
