Two companies, one shared dedication to excellence:  South Coast Roof Training Ltd and Fildes Roofing Ltd are bringing a new standard to roofing in the South East.

 

Fildes Roofing have recently won a prestigious industry award for the quality of the wood/shingle roofing works after the judges saw what a stunning job they’d done on St Andrew’s Church in Tangmere.  After a lightening strike, the Church’s roof was partially vaporised, and Fildes Roofing were called in to rectify the damage.  As you may imagine, working on an historic building came with a league of difficulties and challenges – all of which Fildes rose to with aplomb.

Not only did they take home this trophy, but they were also finalists in Construction News’ annual awards.  They’re a local company who are truly on the map!

Getting the right people for the work isn’t always easy, so Mike Fildes (MD of Fildes Roofing Ltd) decided to establish South Coast Roof Training Ltd; a dedicated training organisation offering modern apprenticeships as well as NVQ training.  Regulated and inspected by the City and Guilds body, SCR is fast establishing itself as the premier assessment centre in the South East for anyone wanting to get into the industry.

“This is something that I’ve wanted to do for years,” comments Mike Fildes.  “We run practical courses, so that students get real-life, hands-on experience rather than just a theoretical knowledge of roofing practice and excellence.” 

SCR works closely with both the Connexions Centre and local colleges, helping young people into the industry and giving them a solid foundation from where to start their careers.  They also offer up-skilling and refresher training to keep experienced professionals right at the top of their games. 

Not only can SCR help to bring young people upto the highest of standards, but they can also help individuals to gain their CSCS card – which is essential for winning tenders and promoting business excellence.
