Everest isn’t just a double glazing sales company, as Neil Hopkins discovers.
Chris Woolley, Arun’s Everest representative, is a world away from one’s traditional idea of a double glazing salesman. Quiet, well-spoken and not in the least bit pressuring, Chris is one of the most affable people that you could ever met. Which is why he isn’t a double glazing salesman, as he explains.
“These days,” Chris says, “Everest is much more than a double glazing firm – we’ve branded ourselves as home improvement specialists, which is a description that better suits the range of work that we can undertake.”
Idly flicking through the Everest brochure over a latte, it’s obvious that Chris isn’t spinning me a line. Yes, Everest do a lot of windows – and I mean a lot – but there’s so much else that the company offers as well.
“Doors, driveways, security systems, garage doors, guttering, conservatories…” Chris reels off an extensive list of the products supplied and fitted by Everest. It’s the security systems that catch my eye (anything that looks like a gadget is good).
“Not only can you have up to eight locations around your home monitored at once through our CCTV system,” Chris explains, “but you can arm or disarm it remotely as well. There’s no need for rushed entries or exits anymore!”
More to the point, Chris proudly tells me that no Everest security product has had a false alarm or police report filed against it. It’s pretty impressive stuff.
Since this is the environmental edition of The Magazine, I decided to have a look at Everest’s green credentials a little more closely – after all, we’re being constantly told to uprate this, insulate that, do a dance counter-clockwise to pray for rain (or sun, as appropriate)…
Chris points to the relevant pages of the brochure. “Everest uses low-emissivity glass, which bounces a high percentage of heat back into the room. Coupled with the way we manufacture our sealed doubled glazing units, we can help householders to save significant amounts of money on their heating bills.”
Furthermore, all of the timber used by Everest comes from sustainable sources so, short of indulging in some carbon-offsetting programme, they’ve covered pretty much every angle.
With the rain hammering down on the roof, I can’t help but notice the flat roofed garage across the road. I have never been a fan of leaky flat roofs, with their faded felt and inevitable covering of vegetation.
Chris points out that it’s a GRP roof and that he was contacted by the current householders to have it installed. The Everest GRP system lasts a lot longer than traditional flat roofs and looks a lot better as well. And, for full peace of mind, Everest offer their roofing solutions with a lifetime guarantee. It makes me think of my classic motorbike, languishing under a dripping ceiling…
While we’re on the subject of garages, we get chatting about remote access – something that has always seemed to out of reach of the ordinary person.
“That’s not the case anymore,” Chris continues. “We’ve got a full range of garage doors on offer, all of which can be operated from a key fob, and none of which will break the bank.”
Things like this might seem like a luxury but, let’s face it, we’ve all had a drenching at one time or another trying to get the garage door open…
In Arun, there’s a vast array of listed properties into which you can’t fit just any old double glazing, entrance door or guttering. Apparently, this isn’t a problem.
“We do sash windows, French doors and casement windows, all wood framed in a variety of different styles to suit pretty much any property from any period. I’ve found that many customers appreciate this range, especially when they’ve got a listed building.” And we all know how strict planning inspectors can be…
It’s a fully comprehensive service, backed up by more guarantees than you can shake a sash at and flexible finance as well.
“We try to keep our customers happy,” concludes Chris. “At the end of the day, that’s all that matters…”
