Journey to Work

Shop local AND employ local!

Where do you look for new staff? How hard is it to recruit good candidates? Could you help local people back into work?

Arun Business Partnership is running a project called Journey 2 Work (J2W) in association with our local job centres.

Its aim is to help local people find rewarding employment and work experience opportunities through ABP's fantastic network of local businesses.

How you can get involved

Send job vacancies and apprenticeship opportunities to Miriam.Nicholls@arun.gov.uk and she will share them with candidates across Arun District through Bognor Regis and Littlehampton job centres.

Offer to provide work experience opportunities - this can be anything from a few days to six weeks.

What's in it for businesses?

  • We have access to a pool of talented people with various skills levels and ambitions - all desperate to work hard and feel valued.
  • Save on recruitment costs and time by promoting your job opportunities through the project.
  • Employees who live locally tend to stay longer with an employer.
  • Prove to your customers, suppliers and employees that you are committed to boosting our local economy and wellbeing.

Be a responible employer

One of the biggest challenges faced by the job centres and the J2W project team is keeping out of work candidates motivated and building their self-confidence.

We are shocked by the number of candidates who apply for jobs with local companies, schools and charities who do not even get an acknowledgment that their application has been received.

We know you are all busy, but please spare a moment for how this makes people feel when they are already pretty low because they are not working and earning money.

Imagine if your son, daughter, mother, father, sister or brother was constantly being ignored and rejected as they try to build themselves a brighter future.

A simple acknowledgement and thanks for applying would make a huge difference to the people we are trying to help.
